Jersey Dive Team

Welcome to the Jersey Dive Team Website.

Jersey Dive Team is not a formal club, we are a group of like minded spearos who enjoy diving with friends. Our group promotes selective and sustainable spearfishing practices and we encourage local spearos to get together, learn from each other, dive safely, and enjoy their diving. We welcome new divers, but freediving and spearfishing are potentially dangerous sports and whilst many of our members are very experienced, and can advise about how to hunt fish, they are not qualified to give free diving instruction. Consequently, before taking up this sport, newcomers are strongly advised to seek professional free dive training from a qualified instructor. We are currently lucky to have a qualified instructor as one of our members! Find Matt at FreediveJersey.com

We are primarily a social diving group. We hold plenty of social dives, including some boat dives and other social events. There is no formal membership and there are no joining fees. It’s free! Any competent snorkeler/spearfisher (over 18 years) is welcome to take part in any of the advertised social events on our events page.

Some spearos enjoy an element of friendly competition, so for those that do, we also run the very challenging annual Jersey Open Species Hunting Championship, the Jersey Open Silver Fish and Flatfish Championship (3 competitions) , and the very poignant Alain Lenaghan Memorial Dive. These events are open competitions and therefore open to all. Full entry requirements and the rules for these competitions can be found posted on our information page.

Our group is administered and managed by volunteer coordinators. They are currently, Mike Shearer, Dan Noble, Mark Walker and Jason Prouten. The coordinators manage and organise club events and the day to day running of our group activities. The group has no formal structure, so we rely upon good communication within our group, and where necessary coordinators consult with the whole group to make sure that we are doing what most want to do. They can’t please everyone, all the time, but they do their best.

We are non profit and do not have links with any commercial enterprise, consequently, we are not influenced by any business or commercial interests. We don’t have many expenses, but we have some trophies to fund, and we are reliant upon the support of members to continue our activities

Should you want to try this sport and consider joining us, then please visit our Facebook page, JERSEY DIVE TEAM, where full details can be found.

We look forward to diving with you. Safe diving and good hunting!
